Linear Component Pattern PropertyManager

You can use the Linear Component Pattern PropertyManager to create linear patterns.

To open this PropertyManager:

Click Linear Component Pattern (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Component Pattern > Linear Pattern.

Direction 1

Pattern Direction Defines the direction to extend the pattern. Select a linear edge or a linear dimension.
Reverse Direction Reverses the side on which the pattern propagates from the seed component.
Spacing and instances Independently specifies the spacing and the number of instances.

Spacing

Defines the spacing between pattern instances.

Number of Instances

Defines the number of pattern instances. This number includes the original features or selections.

Up to reference Specifies the spacing and the number of instances based on the selected reference geometry.

Reference Geometry

Specifies the reference geometry that controls the pattern.

Reverse offset direction

Reverses the direction that the pattern is offset from the reference geometry.

Offset distance

Specifies the distance of the last pattern instance from the reference geometry.

Bounding box center

Calculates the offset distance from the reference geometry to the center of the bounding box for the patterned feature.

Selected reference

Calculates the offset distance from the reference geometry to a selected seed feature geometry reference.

Reference Geometry

Specifies which seed feature geometry to calculate the offset distance from.

Available when you select Selected reference.

Set Spacing

Defines the spacing between pattern instances.

Set Number of Instances

Defines the number of pattern instances. This number includes the original features or selections.

Rotate instances Rotates the instances based on an input value around a selected axis.
You can rotate instances as follows:
  • Rotate instances based on an input value.
  • Rotate instances about a selected axis.
  • Align rotated instances to the seed instance.

Available when you select Spacing and instances.

Axis of rotation

Specifies the axis that the pattern rotates around. The axis must be parallel to Direction 1.

Click Reverse Direction to reverse the rotation direction.

Angle

Specifies the angular increment for each pattern instance.

Fixed axis of rotation

Patterned instances rotate around a common axis. When cleared, the rotation axis for each instance of a component is translated along Direction 1 and then rotated following the axis of rotation for that component.

Align to seed

Aligns each instance to match the original alignment of the seed feature.

Available when you select Fixed axis of rotation.

Reference point

Select a reference point:

  • Bounding box center
  • Component origin

Available when you select Align to seed.

Direction 2

Pattern Direction Defines the direction to extend the pattern. Select a linear edge or a linear dimension.
Reverse Direction Reverses the side on which the pattern propagates from the seed component.
  Spacing and instances

Spacing

Specifies the value between the centers of the instances.

Number of Instances

Specifies the total number of instances including the seed components.

Up to reference Specifies the instance number and spacing based on the selected reference geometry.

Pattern seed only Creates a linear pattern in Direction 2 using the seed features only, without replicating the pattern instances of Direction 1.

When cleared, the seed component plus all the instances generated by Direction 1 are patterned in the second direction.

Components to Pattern

Components to Pattern Specifies the seed components.

Instances to Override

Skipped instances Skips the pattern instances that you select in the graphics area.

To skip an instance, click in Skipped instances. In the graphics area, pink selection orbs display on the pattern instances. The pointer changes to when you hover over each pattern instance and the coordinates of the pattern instance appear. Click a selection orb and click Skip Instance.

To restore a skipped instance, click the selection orb and click Unskip instance.

Select This Configuration , All Configurations , or Specify Configurations to apply the skipped instances to the selected configurations.

Modified instances Specifies the modified instances.

To modify an instance, click in Modified instances . In the graphics area, pink selection orbs display on the pattern instances. For modified instances, the selection orb is green. Click a selection orb and click Modify Instance.

In the callout, modify the values for these options:

Distance from seed

Specifies the absolute value from the seed component. Use only positive values.

Offset from nominal

Specifies the relative value to the nominal position of the selected instance.

The nominal position of the instance is the location of the instance before the modification. You can specify positive and negative values. For negative values, the absolute distance to the seed must be positive.

Options

Synchronize movement of flexible subassembly components Moves components in the patterned instances when you move components in the seed flexible subassembly, and vice versa.

This option is useful when you pattern flexible subassemblies.

Synchronize configuration of patterned components to seed Blocks changes to the configuration of patterned instances for all configurations.

Selecting this option may change some patterned component instances to match the configuration of the seed component.
