Creating a Cut Thread

You can select any shape or size on a thread profile. The diameter of a hole or shaft does not determine the thread profile.

To create a cut thread:

  1. Open a model with a cylindrical part and click Insert > Features > Thread .

  2. In the graphics area, select a circular edge.
  3. In the PropertyManager, under Specification, set values for the following:
    1. For Type, select Metric Die.
    2. Set Size to M6x1.0.
  4. For Thread method, click Cut thread.
    The color of the preview varies depending on Color Scheme Settings in System Options, under Temporary Graphics, Remove Material and Add Material.

    The default colors are pink for a cut thread and green for an extrude thread.

  5. Set the starting position of the Thread Location:
    1. Click Offset.
    2. Click Reverse Direction .
    3. Set Offset Distance to 1.00mm.

    The sketch contour is always located on the front plane.

  6. Under End Condition, click Maintain thread length.

    This option keeps the thread at a constant length from the start surface.
