Linear/Linear Coupler Mate

A Linear/Linear Coupler mate establishes a relationship between the translation of one component and the translation of another component.

You can use Linear/Linear Coupler mates in SOLIDWORKS Motion. You can add the mates without having SOLIDWORKS Motion added in.

When you create a linear/linear coupler mate, you can set up the motion of each component with respect to the ground or with respect to a reference component.

To add a linear/linear coupler mate:

  1. Click Mate (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Mate.
  2. In the PropertyManager, on the Advanced tab, click Linear/Linear Coupler .
  3. Under Mate Selections, select the following:
      Option Description
Entities to Mate Specifies the first mated component and its motion direction.
Reference Component for Mate Entity1 Specifies the reference component for the first mated component. If left blank, the motion is with respect to the assembly origin.
Entity to Mate Specifies the second mated component and its motion direction.
Reference Component for Mate Entity2 Specifies the reference component for the second mated component. If left blank, the motion is with respect to the assembly origin.
You can select the same reference component for each mated component.
  4. Under Mate Type, for Ratio, enter values for:
      Option Description
First ratio entry Specifies the displacement of the first mated component along its direction of motion.
Second ratio entry Specifies the displacement of the second mated component along its direction of motion when the first mated component is displaced by the distance you specify in the first ratio entry.
Reverse Reverses the direction of motion of the second mated component relative to the direction of motion of the first mated component.

In this example of a drawer slider, for every millimeter of displacement of the first mated component in its direction of motion, the second mated component is displaced two millimeters in its direction of motion.
