Inserting a Third-Party CAD File into SOLIDWORKS

You can insert a third-party CAD file into a SOLIDWORKS assembly using the Insert Component tool.

To insert a third-party CAD file into a SOLIDWORKS assembly:

  1. Click Open (Standard toolbar) or File > Open.
  2. Optional: 3DEXPERIENCE Users: If the Open from 3DEXPERIENCE dialog box appears, click This PC.
  3. Open a SOLIDWORKS assembly.
  4. Click Insert Components (Assembly toolbar) or Insert > Component > Existing Part/Assembly.
  5. In the dialog box, browse to the desired part file.
  6. Click Open and add it in the SOLIDWORKS assembly.
  7. Click .
    The third-party CAD files are inserted in the SOLIDWORKS assembly.
