Component Name and Description Dialog Box

You can use the Component Name and Description dialog box to specify display options for the FeatureManager design tree.

To access these options, right-click the part or assembly name in the FeatureManager design tree and click Tree Display > Component Name and Description.

Offline mode is available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.

In offline mode, some options are not available. When the selected options are not available, SOLIDWORKS displays Component Name for Primary. For Secondary and Tertiary, SOLIDWORKS does not display values for unavailable options.

For example, you select Physical Product Title for Primary, Physical Product Description for Secondary, and Revision for Tertiary. While in offline mode, SOLIDWORKS displays Component Name as the selected options are not available. When you return to online mode, SOLIDWORKS displays Physical Product Title, Physical Product Description, and Revision for the component name.

The dialog box contains these options:
Primary
  • Physical Product Title

    Displays the physical product title.

    Not available in offline mode.

    Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
  • Component Name

    Displays component names.

    In offline mode, Component Name displays when the selected option is not available.

  • Component Description

    Displays the component description. For more information, see previous description.

    By default, component descriptions do not show as the descriptions are the same as the component names.

    To display a component description:
    • Specify a new component description on the Custom tab of the Properties dialog box.
    • Select Description for Custom property used as custom description on the General page of the System Options.
  • Enterprise Item Number

    Displays the Enterprise Item Number.

    To specify this number, see Setting the Enterprise Item Number in Dassault Systèmes User Assistance. Access to Dassault Systèmes User Assistance requires 3DEXPERIENCE credentials.

    Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.

  • Physical Product Description

    Displays the physical product description.

    Not available in offline mode.

    Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
  • Enterprise Item Number

    Displays the Enterprise Item Number.

    Not available in offline mode.

    Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
  • Configuration Name

    Displays the configuration name of the component.

  • Component Description

    Displays the component description.

  • Configuration Description

    Displays the configuration description of the component.

    By default, configuration descriptions do not show as the descriptions are the same as the configuration names.

    To display configuration descriptions, you must specify new configuration descriptions by opening the Configuration Properties PropertyManager from the ConfigurationManager tab.

  • Display State Name

    Shows the display state for the selected configuration.

  • File Title

    Shows the file title. The title is the file name by default.

    Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
  • Revision

    Shows the revision value.

    Not available in offline mode.

  • Available when you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
Do not show Configuration or Display State name if only one exists Suppresses the configuration and display state names when there is only one configuration.
Name Preview Displays the component name based on the selected options.
