Connected Design Libraries

A Connected Design Library lets you see content from the 3DEXPERIENCE platform in your Task Pane. This is especially important for SOLIDWORKS Routing users.

This information applies to SOLIDWORKS if you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
You can create a Connected Design Library to use as a platform-based connection to share bookmarked content in the SOLIDWORKS Task Pane.

If you bookmark parts and assemblies on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, you can use that content in your SOLIDWORKS Design Library. A Design Library defined by a bookmark is called a Connected Design Library . You can download bookmarked parts and assemblies to your local PC on demand. They appear in your Connected Design Library in a hierarchy as they would if you supplied a folder path for the Design Library.

Working with Connected Design Libraries

You can add Connected Design Libraries and use them to open 3DEXPERIENCE content by means of the Task Pane.

This information applies to SOLIDWORKS if you enable the Design with SOLIDWORKS app.
Save parts and assemblies directly to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform from a connected app. Do not use the Bookmark Editor Upload command. Use the Bookmark Editor to create bookmarks for content that you want to show in the Connected Design Library. You can create bookmarks and sub-bookmarks to organize your content.

To work with Connected Design Libraries:

  1. To add a Connected Design Library, do one of the following:
    • In the Task Pane, on the Design Library tab, click Add File Location .
    • Click Options > System Options > File Locations. In Show folders for, select Design Library and click Add.
  2. In the Choose Folder dialog box, click Select from 3DEXPERIENCE.
  3. In the dialog box, select a bookmark and click Select.
    The bookmark appears in the Design Library as a Connected Design Library . The content of the bookmark is downloaded to a local folder and appears in the lower panel.
    In the Connected Design Library, you cannot rename content, add folders, or add content to folders. To modify the bookmarks, use the Bookmark Editor on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
  4. You can do the following:
    • Drag content from the lower pane of the Connected Design Library into the graphics area.
    • Check the bookmark status. Right-click a bookmark and click Check Status. If the bookmark content is marked as out-of-date , right-click the bookmark and click Update to synchronize the Connected Design Library with the platform.
  5. To remove a Connected Design Library, right-click the library and select Delete.
    In the dialog box, select Remove from Design Library to remove the path only or Delete from Disk to remove the path and the local content.
