- Highlighting
Items in the graphics area are highlighted when you select them, or dynamically highlighted when you move the pointer over them.
- Select
You can use the Select tool to exit a command and return to select mode, which is useful when in sketches and with the viewing tools.

The Select flyout menu provides easy access to multiple selection tools.
- Selection Context Toolbar
When you right-click an empty space in the graphics area of a part or assembly, a selection context toolbar above the shortcut menu provides easy access to the most commonly used selection tools.
- Box Selection
You can select all entity types in parts, assemblies, and drawings by dragging a selection box with the pointer.
- Selecting Items by Lasso
You can select items in the graphics area with a lasso.
- Selecting Over Geometry
The Select over Geometry tool lets you drag a box or lasso over a model without starting the drag from a blank region of the graphics area.
- Selecting Reference Geometry
You can select axes and planes directly in the graphics area. This is useful for tools such as Mate, Measure, or patterns.
- Previous Selection
The Previous Selection tool restores the last set of entities you selected in the current editing session.
- Cross Selection
When you box select from left to right, only items completely within the box are selected. When you cross select from right to left, items crossing the box boundaries are selected, in addition to the items within the box.
- Select All
Select All selects everything in the graphics area, as if you made a box selection covering the entire area.
- Invert Selection
When you select items (usually a small number) and invert the selection, all other similar items in the document are selected and the original selections are canceled.

You can use the Select Other dialog box to select entities that are hidden by other entities. You can use the Select Mate Reference dialog box to select mate references.
