eDrawings Export Options

You can specify the export options when you export SOLIDWORKS documents as eDrawings files.

As a best practice, distribute drawings and assemblies files in eDrawings format, which always requires updates when referenced parts are modified. If this is not possible, redistribute the updated SOLIDWORKS parent drawings and assemblies each time you modify the referenced parts.

To specify eDrawings export options:

  1. In a SOLIDWORKS document, click Save As (Standard toolbar) or File > Save As.
  2. Optional: 3DEXPERIENCE Users: If the Save As New dialog box appears, click Save to This PC.
  3. In the Save As dialog box, in Save as type, select the corresponding eDrawings file type:
    • Part document (*.SLDPRT). eDrawings (*.eprt)
    • Assembly document (*.SLDASM). eDrawings (*.easm)
    • Drawing document (*.SLDDRW). eDrawings (*.edrw)
  4. Save the file.
  5. In the Save Configurations to eDrawings file dialog box (or Save Sheets to eDrawings file dialog box), click Options.
  6. In the System Options - EDRW/EPRT/EASM dialog box, specify the options described below, then click OK.
    Option Description
Enable measure Recipients can measure the geometry in the eDrawings Viewer.
Allow STL export Recipients can save it as an .STL file from the eDrawings Viewer.
Save table features If the part or assembly document you are saving includes bills of materials or title block tables, select to include this information in the exported eDrawings file.
Save file properties Saves custom properties from a SOLIDWORKS document in resulting eDrawings files when you Save As an eDrawings document or Publish to eDrawings in SOLIDWORKS.

For lightweight assemblies, only custom properties for the top-level assembly are available in the resulting eDrawings files.

Configuration-specific properties are not available for assemblies opened in lightweight mode.

Save file properties for each component in the assembly. (Available if you select Save file properties.) Saves custom properties including configuration-specific properties for each component in the SOLIDWORKS assembly.

When you open the file in eDrawings, the Properties tool is available if the file has custom properties.

Save shaded data Saves shaded and draft quality data from the SOLIDWORKS drawing document. When cleared, shaded and draft quality views are omitted from the eDrawings file.
You must also select Save tessellated data for drawings with shaded and draft quality views in Tools > Options > System Options > Drawings > Performance before you can export this data.
Include layers set to not print Includes any layers in drawings that you set to Will not print in the Layers dialog box.
Save motion studies For models with SOLIDWORKS Motion Studies. Saving motion studies can increase file size and creation time:

Save each motion study in every configuration

The out-of-date motion studies are automatically recalculated before exporting to eDrawings.

Save only in last calculated configuration

The configuration of the most recently calculated motion study is used. Select Recalculate the motion study if the results are out of date to recalculate any out-of-date motion studies in that configuration before exporting.

  7. Click OK to save the document.
