3D Sketch Plane PropertyManager

Add planes to 3D sketches to facilitate sketching and adding relations between sketch entities.

Once you add the plane, activate it to view its properties and to create a sketch.

Use 3D Sketch Tool_3D_Sketch.gif to open a sketch on the default Front plane in Isometric view. Use 3D Sketch on Plane Tool_3D_on_a_Plane.gif to open a sketch on a pre-selected plane in Normal to view.

Adding 3D Sketch Planes

To add a 3D sketch plane:

  1. Click 3D Sketch (Sketch toolbar) or Insert > 3D Sketch.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Click Plane (Sketch toolbar) or Tools > Sketch Entities > Plane to display the Sketch Plane PropertyManager.
The available relations displayed under First, Second, and Third Reference are based on existing geometry.
    • From the FeatureManager design tree, select a plane, and click 3D Sketch on Plane (Sketch toolbar) or Insert > 3D Sketch on Plane.
The software adds a 3D sketch plane in the graphics area. You can create a sketch on the 3D sketch plane.

Adding Planes Using References

With existing geometry, you can add a plane by referencing the entities that are present. You can use any number of references required to achieve the desired results.

To add a plane using references:

First Reference:

  1. Select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.

  2. Select a relation.
If you use a 3D sketch plane to create the sketch, you cannot select that plane as a reference.

    Second Reference:

  3. If required, select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.

  4. Select a relation.

    Third Reference:

  5. If required, select a sketch entity or another plane as the reference to position the 3D sketch plane.

  6. Select a relation.
  7. Click PM_OK.gif to close the PropertyManager and return to the Properties PropertyManager.
